Server Centric Computing saves on energy and maintenance costs while increasing up time and security in many environments by utilizing Thin Client technology. A Thin Client is a device which depends primarily on the central server for processing activities, and mainly focuses on conveying input and output between the user and the remote server. In contrast, a thick or, fat client does as much processing as possible and passes only data for communications and storage to the server. While the average PC with an monitor uses about 85 watts, the average laptop uses 15-45 watts. Similarly, a thin client with monitor requires only 30 to 50 watts. A thin client stores enough information to start up and connect to a corporate network. The server provides the rest of the computing horsepower, including hosting files, rendering web pages and running software programs.
